چکیده

The book aims at both biologyand computation-oriented audiences and is designed as a number of 'crashcourses' quickly updating the reader on the basics of bioinformatics. It starts with a preface outlining main biological and technological concepts of the modern computational biology. The rest is organized into four sections consisting of 18 chapters elaborating on essential bioinformatics tools and skills.

Bioinformatics, biocomputing and Perl - an introduction to bioinformatics computing skills and practice

Bioinformatics is a tool biologists need to make sense of new types of methods involving large quantities of data. The thrust to develop bioinformatics comes from biologists, not from computer scientists. Take away bioinformatics and computer scientists will start looking elsewhere for ways of applying and developing string or graph theory, or whatever they are working on at the time. The biolo...

Short Specialist Review Perl in bioinformatics

Advances in biology have generated an ocean of data that needs careful computational analysis to extract useful information. Bioinformatics uses computation and mathematics to interpret biological data, such as DNA sequence, protein sequence, or three-dimensional structures, and depends on the ability to integrate data of various types. The Perl language is well suited to this purpose. An impor...

VisCoSe: visualization and comparison of consensus sequences

We introduce visualization and comparison of consensus sequences (VisCoSe) as a WWW service and a stand-alone command line Perl script for visualizing and comparing consensus sequences of protein and nucleotide sequences. VisCoSe is the only interface available that simultaneously calculates consensus sequences of multiple data sets and automatically compares these consensus sequences. Furtherm...

A Review on Biocomputing Approaches and Tools for Identification of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) are the most common source of genetic variations. There has been enormous research in the area of Biocomputing and Bioinformatics on identification and analysis of SNPs. A large number of methods have been developed for their identification ever since the importance of SNPs in understanding of diseases emerged with the completion of Human Genome Project. T...

PUNS: transcriptomic- and genomic-in silico PCR for enhanced primer design

UNLABELLED We developed a CGI/Perl-based web server to perform in silico polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on PCR primer sequences. The PUNS (Primer-UniGene Selectivity) server simulates PCR reactions by running BLASTN analysis on user-entered primer pairs against both the transcriptome and the genome to assess primer specificity. PUNS is particularly suited for the identification of highly selec...
